Sailing in Alonisos island
If you prefer remote places to have your sailing holidays in Greece then Alonisos is an ideal place for you. Alonisos island is a rocky and remote island with few inhabitants and will be probably the best choice for distant vacations. The north west coast is not so hospitable but the sout east has a lot of sheltered bays and anchorages.
On the south side of the island you will find the ports of Patitiri and the Chora of Alonisos that is the capital town of the island. An earthquake in 1965 forced most of the people to Abandon the town and nowdays few citizens live there.
Just next to Alonisos there is a smaller island called Peristera with a lot of anchorages and bays like Vasiliko bay and Klima bay. You can start a sailing day to Peristera from the ports of Steni Vala and Patitiri. |
Near Tzortzi bay you will find remains of town walls and tombs and at Agios Dimitris you will see ruins of an unknown ancient city.
Finally Agios Petros has a Byzantine ship that sunk during the Byzantine empire. |
